10 Tips to Relieve Stress

Stress. If you have ever experienced it, you know just how tough it can be. Stress can consume you and take over your mind and cause you to experience anxiety. Everyone experiences some level of stress from stress at work to stress at home.

As a student, you are going to feel overwhelmed at times and you will feel stressed, especially as you start to learn new information, approach a test, or have a project to complete.

UEI College wants you to succeed in your courses and is here to assist you in doing so. Below, we will provide you with 10 tips to help you relieve stress.

#1. UNDERSTAND THAT YOU’RE NOT ALWAYS IN CONTROL

While it can be difficult to do, you must face that you are not always in control of every situation. For example, you cannot control what other people do, you cannot control the weather, and the like. There are some situations that you may find yourself in and you must remember that you cannot control them. The only thing you can do is control yourself and do the best that you can.

#2. GO FOR A WALK

Stress happens and sometimes you just need to learn how to deal with it properly. One of the things you can do to help relieve some stress is go for a walk. The fresh air will help you calm down and you can take in nature around you.

A walk is a great way for you to relax, calm down, and even practice breathing techniques to assist you in relieving your stress.

#3. ALWAYS KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

It is easy to have a bad attitude, especially when something does not go your way. Hey, it happens to us all. One of the ways you can relieve stress is to keep a positive attitude. Take time to focus on the good in every situation as this will help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed.

#4. SELF-CARE IS VITAL

Self-care is REQUIRED and should never be looked over. You must take care of yourself and set aside time to do the things that you enjoy. The more time you spend loving life, the less stress you will feel.

#5. DON’T RUSH YOURSELF

There is no reason to rush yourself and you should not only pace the things you do but set aside enough time to accomplish what you need to.

Often, people find themselves stressed because they pack their schedule full of things to do and do not allow enough time in between.

#6. REFLECT ON YOUR DAY

It is recommended that you spend anywhere between 15 to 20 minutes in a quiet space. During this time, think about everything you did throughout the day. Meditation works for many individuals and can help you clear your mind and relieve stress.

#7. AVOID DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

While drugs and alcohol may seem like the answer at first, they will only cause more problems and lead to high-tense and stressful situations. You should avoid alcohol, drugs, and nicotine altogether.

#8. GET EXERCISE – IT IS GOOD FOR YOU

Exercising is good for you but, more importantly, it helps improve blood flow and can relax your body and relieve stress. Stress takes a toll on your body and can lead to poor health, so the healthier you are, the better your body can fight off the side effects of stress.

#9. USE YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM

If you have a support system, use it. One of the best stress relievers is being able to talk to someone you trust. If you do not have a support system in place, look for people you can trust who will not judge you such as friends, teachers, and therapists.

#10. MAKE SURE YOU ARE WELL RESTED

Sleep is vital to your health. If you are well rested, then your body can overcome the stress that you may experience throughout the day. Adults need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, so make sure you take care of yourself and get an adequate night’s sleep.
