A Trailblazer’s Journey to Dental Assisting

Pursuing an education in the Dental Assistant program at UEI College in West Covina, Nyah Paxton plans to carve a unique path that intertwines her passion for dentistry with her aspirations in law. Her journey is a beacon of inspiration for those seeking to overcome obstacles and chart their course to success.

Her educational journey took an unexpected turn. Initially planning to attend a university, financial hurdles arose at the eleventh hour. Undeterred, Paxton sought an alternative route and found herself at UEI College. Opting for the Dental Assistant program, her choice was influenced by her fascination with orthodontics and the intricate anatomy of teeth. “Being able to see how everything works in the anatomy and how detailed everything is was pretty cool,” she said.

Paxton’s experiences at UEI have been transformative, largely shaped by her supportive classmates and instructors. She reflects on her classmates as a source of motivation and camaraderie. “We celebrate each other… it’s kind of built a little family between us,” she said.

Paxton’s instructor’s strictness is not seen as too tough but as a driving force to ensure every student’s success. “They want to see us succeed more than anybody else,” she said.

With the guidance of her instructor, she secured an externship position and then graduated.

Paxton’s compares education to climbing a mountain, she acknowledges the challenges and triumphs. “Once you get to the top and you’re finally at where you’re at… it’s going be the most satisfying feeling that you’ll get,” Paxton imparts. Her words encapsulate her own journey, demonstrating that perseverance and belief in oneself can yield remarkable outcomes.
